This could be me.....in a bit.

Cape Lookout Lighthouse

Take the ferry from Oracoke.

Old Burying Ground in Beaufort NC

We were in the area and a stop at this place was highly suggested by the locals. The historical society provides a self guided tour of the cementary. We were pressed for time and only spent an hour there. Allow more if you visit....

This particular grave has a touching story behind it but you'll have to visit to get the whole story....

Is this the little girl buried in the barrel of rum?

Beaufort, North Carolina

lots of beautiful old houses, many built in double-porch, steeped rood style that shows off the early citizenry 's cultural ties to the wider Caribbean and Atlantic world.

Tryon Palace

Tryon Palace, constructed between 1767 to 1770 and located in New Bern, North Carolina along the Neuse River, was the home of British Governor William Tryon. This home served as the capitol of colonial North Carolina.

Okay, so this is a reproduction but you gotta give them points. The followed the original blueprints and it took 7 years to build and has a garden...hmmm

Marker for Library in Bath, North Carolina.

A historical marker to note the fact that the oldest library in North Carolina used ot be on this site, established circa 1700.

I should visit the First public library...perhaps.

Lake Mattamuskeet, Pretty in Pink

This seems like a surreal place to visit. I'm looking forward to seeing much wildlife, but no alligators, please.

Somerset Place

This month, step back to the 19th century at Somerset Place near the shores of Lake Phelps in Washington County. Active from 1785-1865, this plantation became one the upper South’s most prosperous cultivators of rice, corn and wheat. Today it’s a state historic site that offers a rare, comprehensive view of an antebellum community through seven original buildings and 31 lakeside acres. With the abolishment of slavery at the Civil War’s end, a lack of unpaid labor meant an end for the plantation’s 88 years and it was sold.

Not sure we are going this way....The plantation is located at Lake Pettigrew.

I saw many pictures of the lighthouse, but the painting here is really lovely with all the colors in the foreground.

Nights in Rodanthe

Must show the inn from the movie. I hope to see it and imagine Richard Gere and Diane Lane here.

White Ibis in flight, Nov. 2009

At Pea Island Wildlife Refuge,,,wanting to see lots of different birds, but mostly swan.

Roanoke Island Festival Park

Roanoke Island Festival Park is a 27-acre state historic site and cultural center celebrating history, education, and the arts. Step aboard the Elizabeth II, a representative 16th century sailing vessel. Visit with Elizabethan explorers and soldiers in the Settlement Site. The Roanoke Adventure Museum explores 400 years of Outer Banks history. View the docudrama, "The Legend of Two-Path". Experience a new artist each month in The Art Gallery. Shop our store for unique gifts. Enjoy special summer performances. Stroll our boardwalks through pristine marshes and observe our hidden beauty.

Probably won't go here....looks too commercial.

North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island

Perhaps we'll go to this aquarium....but there are others.

Fort Raleigh, site of "the Lost Colony"

I'm getting the impression that there really isn't a fort at Fort Raleigh. It appears to be an earthen bank that indicates where the fort was.

Elizabethan Gardens Virginia Dare

This is what the artist felt Virginia Dare would look like if she lived and walked around naked with a crane, draped only in a fishing net. Of course she would still do her hair as the English women of the day.

I read that this statue had quite a history. It lay under water off the coast of Spain for two years, was salvaged from a fire in Massachusetts, and upon her arrival in North Carolina in the 1920s was considered so racy that for decades she was tossed back and forth like a hot potato all across the state.

Wright Brothers National Memorial

I want to see and stand where the Wright brothers did their thing. Kill Devil Hill should be a good climb and the 4 markers at the base of the hill should show how far those 4 flights went.

Jockey's Ridge - Nags Head, North Carolina

I think we would get a good work out if we climbed up the enormous sand dune called Jockey's Ridge.

Behind Nags Head, a popular ocean front resort, the constantly shifting sand dunes including Jockey's Ridge are over 100 feet in height and the highest coastal sand dunes in the United States

Our vacation to North Carolina will include the Outer Banks. Hoping to research by chronicling the area with pictures beforehand.
